Pedestrians are the second largest group of fatalities in automobile accidents.  In addition to Takata’s efforts to protect occupants we now have a new driving force to protect pedestrians.  Pedestrian protection regulations and consumer assessment ratings for a car model’s pedestrian protection system rating has led to an emphasis on reducing pedestrian fatalities.  Takata’s mission is to save lives from all types of traffic accidents.

Pedestrian detection and methods to increase head protection during an impact with the vehicle will reduce fatalities. Takata is developing pedestrian protection systems including sensors and protection devices.  In addition, modifications are applied to the vehicle including windshield wiper redesign as well as hood and fender modifications. We work closely with our customers to develop systems that will save pedestrians' lives.
